چکیده

In a previous paper (1948) a clinic for the treatment of osteoarthritis was described and certain conclusions were drawn. The technique used was that described by Waugh (1939). The value of this method of intra-articular injection was considered proven but the value of acid solutions not proven. It was felt that the success was due to varying combinations of three factors. Firstly, the injection oflocal anaesthetic allowed a pain-free period during which " auto-manipulation " was carried out. Secondly, the liquid injected into the (usually) dryjoint cavity acted as a lubricant and presumably " spread" the hyaluronic acid which tends to persist even in the degenerate joint (Kellgren, 1961). Thirdly, the bringing together of fellow sufferers at a clinic where relief was given coupled with the advice as to active movements and exercises to be carried out as homework, produced a progressive atmosphere far more helpful than in some physiotherapy departments where so often the patient feels the treatment is being done for him and requires no active effort from him. One cannot exclude the effect of such group therapy and must accept it gratefully as a constant adjunct to the physical benefit achieved by the injection treatment alone.

Experimental Study on Protective Role of NSAID on Articular Cartilage Destruction in Septic Arthritis

Background: Surgical drainage and antibiotic therapy are the cornerstones of treatment protocols in septic arthritis; however, in some circumstances, the diagnosis and initiation of treatment may be retarded by slow disease progression or the time when the patient’s condition precludes early surgery. Therefore, it is beneficial to find ways to reduce the amount of articular injury. This study a...

The Effect of Intra-Articular Injection of Two Anti TNF Drugs on Histopathology and Effect of Local Infusion of these Drugs on Blood Flow of Chronically Inflamed Joints in Rabbit

Background & Aims: The anti TNF drugs are new line treatment for articular inflammatory diseases which are used systemically, but due to expensiveness and some systemic adverse effects have limited usage. The aims of this study were to investigate the effect of intra-articular (local) injection of Etanercept and Infliximab as two anti TNF drugs on histopathology and also due to the important ro...

Treatment of Staphylococcal Joint Infection in the Rabbit by Administration of Systemic Antibiotics and Intra-articular Corticosteroids

Background/objective: Despite the present routine treatment of septic arthritis with antibacterial agents, articular damage is persistent and frequently leads to loss of joint function.  The aim of this study was to assess the effect of intra-articular corticosteroids added to systemic antibiotics in the treatment of experimental staphylococcal knee joint infection in rabbits. Methods: Thirty r...
